So many red flags, I'm disappointed by the lack of effort this scammer put into this. The TTS voice they used must be 20 years old. They didn't spoof a toll free number, just a random out of area code number. Didn't spoof caller ID. Didn't even give a name for the supposed "deputy officer" who was "waiting for my call back", no return number.

If it's too half-assed to be passed off as a federal agency, that's astonishing. Normally you feel bad for the victims of fraud, but in this case, the scammers deserve a little pity. I'm certain they're actually losing money on this scam, and if the effort they've shown here is even a small fraction of their ability, they're doomed to a life of inescapable poverty and ridicule. It's just so sad."
