"Answered the first time it called, only to be met with silence-even with a warning I was about to hang up from lack of response.

I was called again, but I did NOT answer it this time. I'm convinced it was someone trying to ensure my number belonged to an actual person, and they planned to scam money or information out of me with the second call.

That IS how these type of fraud/scammer calls work: call a random number to see if you record a person on the other end, call them and try to trick them into giving up information or money."
