MISSOURI ATTORNEY GENERAL GETS PENALTY FROM TWO NEVADA COMPANIES
April 11, 2013
Missori Attorney General goes after two Nevada companies for violating the Missori Do Not Call list and settles for $41,000 in penalties and an agreement to stop making any telemarketing calls to any consumer in the state of Missouri on the Do Not Call list.
Jefferson City, Mo. – Attorney General Chris Koster said today that two Nevada companies have agreed to pay the state of Missouri more than $41,000 in penalties for violations of the state’s no-call law.
Koster said his office received more than 175 complaints about the companies, Firebrand Group S.L. and Worldwide Commerce Associates. Consumers reported the companies made calls trying to sell services such as cruise packages and tax services.
In addition to the $41,500 penalty, the companies have agreed to stop making telemarketing calls to any consumer in the state of Missouri who has placed his or her phone number on the Missouri Do-Not-Call list without the consumer’s express consent.
"The Attorney General's Office will continue to pursue companies that violate our telemarketing and phone solicitation laws," Koster said. "Missourians subscribe to our no-call list to avoid being harassed by telemarketers, and this office will aggressively enforce the law to protect consumers from unwanted calls."
Koster reminds Missourians they can sign up for the Do-Not-Call hotline on his website at ago.mo.gov or by calling 866-662-2551.
