"Call came in claiming it was ComEd saying that our electricity would be shut off today due to lack of payment. They told me to call 800-688-0501.
I was fairly certain it was a scam, but they new the address of our office, so I figured I'd call the number to see what they said.
I spoke with a man who pulled up our information and said that we had an outstanding balance of $869.47 and that our electricity would be shut off in 45 minutes.
I asked him how we could get in turned back on and he said that we would have to go to their corporate office in Libertyville, IL and pay with cash and that they would not accept checks or credit cards.
I told him that I've never heard of ComEd requiring anybody to to come to a physical office to make payment, let alone it being in cash.
I told him that it sounded like a scam and that when my electricity is still up after 45 minutes I'd know he was full of crap. Then I hung up."
